About the role#
As a Winemaking Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Winemaker to support the production of wine from grape to finished product. You will shadow various roles across the facility to learn about cellaring, compliance, winemaking, and lab analysis. This role requires a commitment of at least six months of full-time work.
What you'll do#
- Shadow different roles to understand facility practices, processes, and leadership.
- Learn lab procedures, identify wine specifications for varietals, and pull tank samples.
- Participate in facility sanitation and ensure protocols are followed before daily startup.
- Supervise grape processing during crush, including managing trucks from the test stand to tanks.
- Ensure additions, circulations, and pressing occur at the correct times.
- Conduct daily fermenter tastings and tank walks.
- Document production scale winemaking trials and assist with benchtop trials.
- Write and close work orders under the direction of the Winemaker.
- Learn the function of cellar equipment by working with operators.
- Provide status reports upon the completion of major tasks.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate program in Viticulture and Enology, with a standing of Junior level or higher.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer aptitude.
- Ability to solve problems creatively and identify root causes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing needs.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures.
- Ability to perform physical tasks like bending, stooping, and standing, and lift up to 50 pounds.
