About the role#
The Manning Undergraduate Research Student position supports faculty research within the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Tulsa. This role provides students with hands-on laboratory experience, data analysis training, and professional development through technical writing and presentations. The position includes a stipend of $720 per semester for up to 48 hours of research, along with funding for project materials.
What you'll do#
- Conduct laboratory experiments and record data accurately.
- Analyze experimental results using software tools.
- Prepare written reports and visual presentations of your findings.
- Present research progress during weekly group meetings.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
- Assist faculty and graduate students with routine research tasks.
- Perform literature reviews to support project objectives.
- Develop and refine experimental protocols.
- Manage and inventory research supplies.
- Document all work in the department electronic lab notebook.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a junior or senior in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Basic experience with laboratory techniques and equipment.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and chemical handling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software like Excel or MATLAB.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- An interest in pursuing graduate studies or a career in chemical engineering research.
- Availability to commit up to 48 research hours per semester.
