About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Internship (VTI) is a 52-week, full-time mentored program designed to provide post-graduate clinical training in a high-volume, academic veterinary hospital. Interns work alongside clinical educators, veterinary specialists, and technician preceptors to gain practical experience and confidence in patient care.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the care and medical treatment of all animals admitted to the hospital.
- Assist with clinical consultations and interdepartmental animal transfers.
- Complete rotations through various departments, including Anesthesia, Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Behavior, and the Medical/Surgical Unit, plus two elective specialty rotations.
- Attend bi-monthly lectures and participate in clinical wet and dry labs.
- Engage in perioperative and surgical care within the surgical department.
What you'll need#
- Graduation from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program.
- A valid Veterinary Technician license or permit for the State of New York obtained prior to the start of the internship.
- A passing score of at least 425 on the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
- A resume including three letters of recommendation from professors or employers.
- A cover letter detailing career objectives and reasons for applying.
