About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Internship (VTI) at The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is a 52-week mentored post-graduate program. Designed for graduates of AVMA-accredited veterinary technology programs, this full-time, paid internship provides intensive clinical training within one of the world's largest veterinary teaching hospitals. Interns work alongside clinical educators, veterinary specialists, and technician preceptors to gain practical experience across a wide range of departments.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the medical treatment and care of all animals admitted to the hospital.
- Assist with patient consultations and interdepartmental transfers.
- Complete rotations through core departments including Anesthesia, Behavior, Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Medical/Surgical units.
- Complete two elective rotations selected from over 20 available specialties.
- Engage in perioperative patient care and surgical support.
- Attend bi-monthly lectures and participate in clinical wet and dry labs.
- Undergo periodic performance evaluations to identify areas for professional growth.
What you'll need#
- Graduation from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program.
- A Veterinary Technician license or permit for the State of New York obtained prior to the start date.
- A minimum score of 425 on the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
- Three letters of recommendation from professors or employers attached to your resume.
- A cover letter detailing your career objectives and reasons for applying.
