About the role#
This 12-week internship provides a rotational experience within the Enterprise Data team at The MJ Companies. You will work across three core disciplines: Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and Business Intelligence (BI) Development. The role offers hands-on exposure to how modern enterprise applications, data platforms, and analytics solutions are built and maintained. You will conclude the summer by completing a capstone project that applies your technical skills to a real business problem, which you will present to associates and leadership.
What you'll do#
- Rotate through Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and BI Development teams.
- Contribute to software development initiatives and enterprise application projects.
- Write and manage SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Support data engineering tasks such as data processing, integration, and pipeline development.
- Build and improve Power BI reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders.
- Use languages like .NET or Python to support automation and application development.
- Ensure the quality of solutions through testing, documentation, data validation, and code reviews.
- Collaborate with software engineers, BI developers, and business analysts on daily tasks.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Junior or senior standing by Summer 2027.
- Completed coursework in data structures, algorithms, and database design.
- Experience with data analysis or data visualization.
- Programming experience in at least one general-purpose language, preferably C#, Java, or C++.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts.
- Exposure to Python or Power BI is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- An eagerness to learn new technologies and work across multiple technical disciplines.
