About the role#
The Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Intern supports the site team in maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive manufacturing environment. A major focus of this role is supporting construction and capital project activities to ensure safety expectations are met across the site. You will gain hands-on experience in industrial safety, environmental compliance, and project execution within a food manufacturing facility.
What you'll do#
- Support active construction, capital, and improvement projects from a SHE perspective.
- Participate in project safety planning, risk assessments, and pre-task reviews.
- Assist with contractor safety management, including onboarding, safety orientations, and field observations.
- Conduct construction safety walkdowns to identify hazards and improvement opportunities.
- Help collect data for site SHE KPIs, trends, and reporting.
- Assist with incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action tracking.
- Support machine safety, ergonomic assessments, and behavior-based safety activities.
- Prepare and deliver toolbox talks and project-specific safety messaging.
- Complete a defined capstone project with a final presentation to site leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or Industrial, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- Strong interest in manufacturing and project safety.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
