About the role#
The Heritage Research Group is seeking a graduate student for a summer internship focused on chemistry research. You will work on bench-scale R&D for new product development, scaling for manufacturing, and process optimization. Projects cover road construction, specialty chemicals, and waste recycling. This role requires direct laboratory experience with chemical synthesis, material analysis, or application testing.
What you'll do#
- Perform sample preparation, syntheses, material screening, and analysis.
- Conduct catalyst screening and development.
- Document all testing activities in a lab notebook.
- Collaborate with your direct supervisor to guide research direction.
- Troubleshoot issues and maintain an organized workspace.
- Write reports on research findings.
- Handle multiple tasks and parallel projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently in your 3rd or 4th year of a PhD program in chemistry or a related field.
- A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least 1 year of previous laboratory experience.
- Understanding and implementation of safe laboratory practices.
- Basic computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Mechanical ability and fine motor skills.
- Effective communication and time management skills.
- Experience with hazardous waste and knowledge of waste classifications is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and wear lab PPE for up to 8 hours.
