About the role#
The Family Centre of Northern Alberta is offering internship positions for students currently completing their Master’s degree in Counselling, Clinical Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. This program provides clinical training and support as you fulfill your academic requirements. You will work within our Drop-In Single-Session Counselling program and provide subsidized ongoing therapy to clients with various needs. There may be opportunities to provide support in school settings.
What you'll do#
- Support the healing of adults, couples, families, and minors.
- Establish trusting relationships with clients using sound therapeutic techniques.
- Apply a solid theoretical base to your clinical work.
- Assist clients in finding community resources and advocate on their behalf.
- Manage administrative tasks accurately and on schedule.
- Videotape sessions to facilitate clinical supervision.
- Participate in individual, group, and consultation supervision meetings.
- Maintain the flexibility and availability required to meet your academic hours.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Counselling, Clinical Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft and Google Drive tools.
- A flexible, driven, and creative approach to your work.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and self-care practices.
- Previous experience working face-to-face with vulnerable populations is helpful.
- Completion of the Trans Wellness Initiative Introduction to Affirming Spaces training before the internship begins.
- Ability to obtain ASIST Suicide Intervention Training or a similar program within two months of your start date.
- Ability to pass a Police Information Check and a Child Intervention Records Check, both completed within six months of your start date.
