About the role#
The Davey Tree Expert Company is hiring for a field-based Arborist Trainee Internship for Summer 2027. This full-time position is based in Acton, Massachusetts. You will work alongside experienced arborists, climbers, and technicians to gain hands-on experience in the green industry.
What you'll do#
- Perform tree pruning, removal, cabling, bracing, and general maintenance.
- Assist with tree and landscape installation projects.
- Operate equipment such as chainsaws and chippers safely.
- Provide plant health care, including deep root fertilization, soil care, and pest management.
- Learn about the business side of residential tree care, including sales, management, and client service.
- Work toward completing the Career Development Program climber and plant health care booklets.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, or a related discipline.
- A valid driver’s license. A commercial driver’s license is a plus.
- A genuine interest in proper plant care and working outdoors.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Acton, Massachusetts.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship. All required climbing gear, uniforms, and personal protective equipment are provided.
