About the role#
The Davey Tree Expert Company is hiring an Arborist Trainee for a full-time, paid internship during Summer 2027. You will work in the field alongside experienced arborists, climbers, and plant health care technicians. This role provides hands-on experience in residential tree care and introduces you to the business operations of the green industry.
What you'll do#
- Perform tree pruning, removal, cabling, bracing, and general maintenance.
- Assist with tree and landscape installation projects.
- Operate field equipment safely, including chainsaws and chippers.
- Manage plant health through deep root fertilization, soil care, and pest management.
- Learn the fundamentals of client service, sales, and leadership.
- Gain exposure to the daily operations of a residential tree care office.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, or a related discipline.
- A valid driver’s license. A commercial driver’s license is a plus.
- A genuine interest in plant care and the outdoors.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work well with a team.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Canton, Michigan.
- The role is on-site and full-time, typically 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays.
