This internship offers professional development for students or recent graduates in information sciences, genealogy, linguistics, history, or related fields. Interns will apply academic knowledge to practical work, contributing to the quality and accessibility of historical records on FamilySearch.org. This is a paid, full-time position with two openings: one focusing on Russian language skills and one focusing on Spanish language skills.
What you'll do#
- Audit and evaluate metadata and image quality for digital historical records before they are published.
- Conduct data analysis to investigate and resolve data-related issues.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to maintain quality benchmarks and improve existing processes.
- Create or update metadata to enhance the discoverability and usability of records for research.
- Support training efforts by contributing to documentation or instructional materials.
- Participate in meetings to coordinate projects and address quality concerns.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion (within one year) of a degree in information sciences, genealogy, linguistics, history, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Russian or Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking), depending on the assigned role. Proficiency in Slavic languages or Portuguese is a plus.
- Ability to read handwritten historical documents, including cursive.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct research and interpret data.
- Experience creating or contributing to training materials or documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with FamilySearch.org tools.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- For the Russian-language role, experience typing using a Russian keyboard or input tools is required.
- Eligibility to participate in a paid internship program, including completion of a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
- Candidates must be members of the Church who are worthy of a temple recommend.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Lehi, Utah.
- The role is on-site (4 days in-office, 1 day remote).
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
