The Interfraternity Council Advisor (Student Development Specialist II) serves as the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC) at Texas A&M University. This role is part of the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) team, supporting the advising, administration, and training of programs for approximately 60 fraternity and sorority organizations. The position requires a commitment to student development, leadership, and the maintenance of university policies and risk management practices.
What you'll do#
- Serve as the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC), attending meetings and programs.
- Advise student leaders, chapter members, and individual chapters on operations, goal setting, alumni relations, and peer accountability.
- Enhance accountability and risk management practices, providing education on local, state, and federal laws regarding alcohol, hazing, and Title IX.
- Establish and maintain essential communication channels with both educational and non-educational agencies.
- Act as a liaison between inter/national offices, local chapters, and the university.
- Maintain student records and ensure financial and infrastructure needs are met, including document reviews and inventory management.
- Participate in departmental initiatives, strategic planning, and university committees.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of experience in student affairs or a related specialty area.
- Knowledge of the influence of college student development on student behavior and decision-making.
- Preferred: A Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field.
- Preferred: Prior experience as an advisor to Interfraternity, Panhellenic, Multicultural Greek, or National Pan-Hellenic councils.
- Ability to work nights and periodic weekends as needed, including occasional overnight travel for conferences and retreats.
