About the role#
The Social Media Student Assistant supports Texas A&M AgriLife’s social media efforts by developing high-quality, brand-aligned content. This is a hands-on, creative role focused on capturing photo and video assets, editing content for multiple platforms, and generating new ideas. All student workers in this department complete a semester-long project aligned with the strategic marketing plan, resulting in portfolio-ready work.
What you'll do#
- Capture photos and videos at events and around campus to support multi-platform storytelling.
- Prepare final deliverables, including captions, thumbnails, alt-text, and optimized aspect ratios.
- Pitch content ideas weekly that align with AgriLife priorities, campaign calendars, student life, and program stories.
- Monitor platform trends, emerging formats, and best practices to assess brand fit.
- Prepare posts for scheduling, ensuring accuracy, brand voice alignment, and accessibility requirements.
- Assist with publishing day-of content, live coverage, or quick-turn stories.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status at Texas A&M University.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and basic analytics tools.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Professional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Preferred: Coursework or experience in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism.
