About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, you will work on-site in Watertown, South Dakota. This is a full-time, paid position that offers exposure to global manufacturing operations. You will support production lines and collaborate with team members on projects involving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale.
What you'll do#
- Develop new manufacturing processes and improve existing ones, including work sequences, time studies, and material flow.
- Provide technical support for production lines by working alongside front-line team members and engineers.
- Use root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation to address safety concerns or quality defects.
- Brainstorm with production supervisors and engineers to refine daily tasks and processes.
- Assist with special projects such as Kaizen activities, facility moves, and capital equipment expenditures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Industrial or Mechanical Engineering degree program or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A teachable mindset and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Familiarity with JIT, Lean thinking, 5S principles, and Single Piece Flow is preferred.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Draftsight, AutoCAD, or OnShape.
- Ability to interpret manufacturing and assembly drawings, with knowledge of welding symbols and GD&T considered a plus.
