About the role#
Tampa Electric is offering an internship opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in Substation Engineering Protection and Control. This program allows you to apply your academic studies to real-world projects while building your professional network. You will work within our substation engineering team to support the design and maintenance of critical power infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop protection and control systems for distribution and transmission stations using Microstation CAD software.
- Participate in meetings with internal teams, external departments, and vendors.
- Attend training sessions focused on engineering practices, safety protocols, and leadership development.
- Provide support to the drafting and RTU teams as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited undergraduate or graduate Electrical Engineering program.
- Successful completion of your junior year at an ABET accredited institution.
- Senior or graduate student standing.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Enrollment in your university's co-op program.
- Knowledge of single phase AC and DC circuits and three phase power.
- Ability to organize, develop, and write professional technical documents.

- Location: Tampa, Florida.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site at the TECO Central Service Area.
- This is a paid, part-time position (15-40 hours per week).
