About the role#
As a MOF Chemist Co-op, you will join our R&D Center of Excellence to research and develop advanced sorbent materials for carbon capture. You will focus primarily on porous metal-organic framework (MOF) materials and support broader initiatives, including porous polymer sorbents for direct air capture.
What you'll do#
- Conduct laboratory experiments for MOF synthesis, characterization, and property investigations.
- Generate accurate data and use characterization techniques to evaluate sorbent structure and performance.
- Research relevant scientific literature to support development projects.
- Communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and Excel analysis.
- Maintain experimental setups, chemical inventories, SDS documentation, and purchase requests.
- Support health, safety, and lean culture within the lab.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a 3rd or 4th year degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- At least 8 months of academic or industrial laboratory experience.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory synthesis and purification.
- Experience with characterization techniques such as TGA, gas sorption analysis, FTIR, SEM, XRD, or NMR.
- Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and adaptability.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of NMR interpretation, ChemDraw, Mercury, GCMC simulations, or Ab Initio calculations is an asset.
- Two- to three-step small-molecule organic synthesis experience is an asset.

- Compensation: CAD $3,200 - $3,800 per month.
