About the role#
As a Material Characterization Co-op, you will join the Structured Sorbent Industrialization team. You will support the evaluation of materials used in carbon capture technologies and manufacturing processes. This role involves following study plans, operating lab instruments, and analyzing data to assess material performance.
What you'll do#
- Follow established study plans to evaluate material properties.
- Operate standard and custom laboratory instruments.
- Perform scientific data analysis and interpret experimental results.
- Contribute to method development, experimental optimization, and uncertainty analysis.
- Prepare technical documentation including reports, SOPs, presentations, and IP-related materials.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
- Support routine lab operations, instrument health checks, and maintenance activities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, or a related discipline.
- Interest in materials characterization, carbon capture technologies, porous materials, polymers, MOFs, and sorbents.
- Interest or hands-on experience with laboratory-scale chemical synthesis, wet chemistry, and sample preparation.
- Interest or hands-on experience with TGA, DSC, DVS, XRD, EDS, PSD, FTIR, gas sorption, breakthrough testing, and mass spectrometry.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to perform scientific data analysis and contribute to method development.
- Commitment to laboratory safety and the ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

- Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (On-site).
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 (January 2027 - August 2027).
- Employment: Full-time paid co-op position.
