About the role#
The Process Engineer Co-op supports engineering activities at the Carbon Engineering Innovation Centre and the STRATOS Carbon Capture Plant. This is an 8-month, full-time, paid co-op starting in January 2027. You will spend your first month training in Squamish, British Columbia, followed by seven months on-site in Ector County, Texas. This role involves shift work and requires collaboration across engineering, operations, and technical development teams to troubleshoot systems, analyze performance data, and implement process improvements.
What you'll do#
- Troubleshoot plant issues and provide in-field technical support during testing, commissioning, and production runs.
- Act as a liaison between the technical team and operations personnel.
- Collect and analyze plant data and lab results to evaluate system performance against objectives.
- Document findings in technical reports and presentations for project stakeholders.
- Support plant upgrades from initial design through to construction and commissioning.
- Participate in Process Hazards Assessments, including HAZOPS and What-If Analysis.
- Perform field checks and inspections for engineering projects.
- Develop work plans and commissioning procedures to validate equipment upgrades.
- Update technical documentation and drawings, including P&IDs and equipment lists.
- Participate in the Management of Change process for plant modifications.
- Interface with internal departments, external partners, and equipment vendors.
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture by identifying and reporting unsafe conditions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Canadian post-secondary institute (2nd, 3rd, or 4th year).
- Preference for students pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Strong grasp of core engineering principles, specifically thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- Comfort working in a chemical or industrial plant environment.
- Previous experience in a hazardous environment is preferred.
- An explorer mindset for tackling new, complex technical challenges.
- Current Canadian work authorization.
- Eligibility for a J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor program or equivalent US work authorization.
Location & details#
- The role is on-site. Training occurs in Squamish, BC, with the primary work location in Ector County, TX.
- Relocation support, including accommodation and travel costs, is provided by the company.
- This position is paid at $24-26 per hour, with additional remote pay for the US assignment.
