Transportation Group Intern - Engineer

About the role#

Sundt Construction is seeking a Transportation Group Intern to join our team in Irving, Texas. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience on challenging construction projects while participating in the day-to-day activities required to build them. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role designed for students pursuing a career in the construction industry.

What you'll do#

• Assist with project record keeping, preparation of shop drawings, and maintenance of cost control records.
• Support report preparation, safety inspections, and the logging and processing of submittals.
• Participate in surveying, testing, sample collection, drawing corrections, and filing.
• Assist with timekeeping, inventory control, schedule monitoring, and subcontractor coordination.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and contact vendors and subcontractors to solicit proposals.
• Attend bid openings and conferences, observe meetings, and conduct site tours.
• Perform various tasks as a manual laborer, helper, clerk, or technician assistant as needed.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a four-year Construction Management or Engineering program (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical).
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
• A curious mindset, eagerness to learn, and a willingness to perform manual, hands-on tasks.
• A strong interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction.
• Ability to wear and utilize required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hardhats, and vests.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing or walking for the duration of a shift.
