About the role#
As a PhD Data Science Intern, you will join our team to build models, data products, and insights that help Stripe and its users grow responsibly. You will own projects end to end, working alongside data scientists to solve complex problems. This position is based in Toronto and operates on-site.
What you'll do#
- Apply probability distributions, statistical inference, and hypothesis testing to evaluate business outcomes.
- Use Python or R for data processing, statistical modeling, machine learning, and causal inference.
- Build, train, and evaluate predictive models, including regression and classification tasks.
- Model temporal dependencies, seasonality, and trends.
- Identify clusters and outliers in unlabeled data.
- Deploy models into production and adjust thresholds to improve performance.
- Design, run, and analyze complex experiments.
- Use SQL and Spark to transform and analyze large datasets.
- Communicate your work status and present findings to the Data Science team and partner teams.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a quantitative PhD program, such as Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or Mathematics.
- Expected graduation date in December 2027 or spring/summer 2028.
- Experience with SQL and a scientific computing language like Python or R.
- Proficiency with AI tools to accelerate coding, analysis, and model development.
- Experience working and communicating with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Ability to write and debug data pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to receive and incorporate feedback from peers and mentors.
- Aptitude for learning new systems through independent research and collaboration.
