About the role#
Stantec is hiring a Transportation Engineering Intern for a full-time position during Summer 2027. This role is based in our New York office on 5th Avenue. You will work on transportation planning and engineering projects, supporting our teams with data analysis, modeling, and design tasks. This is a paid position.
What you'll do#
- Assist with transportation impact studies, report preparation, and technical assignments.
- Collect traffic data from public sources and through site visits.
- Analyze data using tools like Microsoft Excel, Python, and MySQL.
- Run traffic analyses using software such as HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM.
- Support travel demand model calibration, validation, and scenario analysis in Cube and TransCAD.
- Provide support to our roadway design and traffic engineering teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with programming languages like Python, C++, or Java.
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Interest in transportation planning and engineering.
- Experience or interest in travel demand modeling and transportation software like HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, and TransCAD is preferred.
- Enrollment in an advanced degree program, such as a master’s or Ph.D., is a plus.

- Work Modality: This role is on-site. It is primarily office-based, though some field work may be required to collect data, which may involve exposure to weather conditions.
