About the role#
Stantec is looking for a student to join our Community Development team for a 16-month internship. You will gain hands-on experience in both office and field environments, contributing to projects across the Greater Calgary Region. This role provides a foundation for a career in civil engineering through work in design, construction, and project coordination.
What you'll do#
- Participate in field reviews and on-site construction observation.
- Work with contractors, surveyors, inspectors, and project teams.
- Review engineering drawings and compare them with field conditions and survey information.
- Identify issues in the field and support the development of practical solutions.
- Communicate construction progress and observations to project teams.
- Support engineering designs for sanitary, stormwater, water networks, roads, and lot grading using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, memos, and project documentation.
- Prepare earthworks cut-and-fill analyses and grading assessments.
- Assist with erosion and sediment control plans, sound attenuation studies, and coordinate shallow utilities.
- Review survey packages and participate in team meetings.
- Learn and apply company safety practices, quality standards, and professional procedures.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with at least three years of post-secondary education complete by May 1, 2027.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in both office and outdoor field environments.
- A detail-oriented approach to problem solving and a commitment to continuous growth.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, or Bluebeam Revu is an asset.
