Stantec is seeking an enthusiastic Biophysical Sciences Co-op Student to join the Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology teams for the Summer 2026 term. This role focuses on field-based environmental work, with opportunities to gain practical experience alongside experienced practitioners. The position is based in Burnaby, British Columbia, and requires a high degree of physical and mental resilience for work in remote environments.
What you'll do#
- Conduct field work including construction monitoring and data collection on environmental features, such as plants, wetlands, forests, lakes, watercourses, wildlife, and intertidal or open-ocean areas.
- Research, compile, and evaluate project data.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures, prioritizing safety in every task.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Travel away from home for extended periods, staying in hotels or camps, and working 12-hour days—including evenings and weekends—for stretches of 14 days or longer.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in an environmental field.
- Familiarity with biological field methods, including minnow trapping, beach seining, fish identification, sediment sampling, and the use of water quality meters.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 23kg (50lbs).
