About the role#
As an Operations Intern at SPX Technologies, you will gain hands-on experience supporting and leading manufacturing operations. You will work closely with plant leadership to understand how supervisors drive performance while maintaining a safe and productive environment. This role provides exposure to frontline leadership, production planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Support daily manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
- Monitor production schedules and assist in meeting customer demand.
- Participate in daily production meetings and shift communications.
- Gain exposure to assembly, machining, and shipping processes.
- Assist supervisors in coordinating workflow and resolving production issues.
- Participate in safety observations, facility inspections, and near-miss investigations.
- Shadow production supervisors to learn frontline leadership responsibilities.
- Participate in employee coaching, team meetings, and onboarding for new hires.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Track and analyze operational metrics like attendance, scrap, downtime, and overtime.
- Complete a capstone project focused on improving plant performance and present your findings to leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Business, Operations Management, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated leadership potential.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels, including hourly production staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, warehouse, agriculture, construction, or military environments is preferred.
- Involvement in student organizations, athletics, or other leadership activities is a plus.
- A genuine interest in pursuing a career in manufacturing leadership or operations management.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Pacific, Missouri.
- The role is on-site at a manufacturing facility.
- This position follows a rolling term schedule.
