About the role#
The Flight Operations Safety & Compliance Internship offers hands-on experience within the Southwest Airlines Flight Operations department. Interns support projects related to regulatory requirements, company policies, and operational standards. You will work across various teams to assist in the creation and distribution of safety information for flight crews, training staff, and leadership.
What you'll do#
- Assist with day-to-day administration and personnel record management.
- Implement documents into various platforms and help format operational processes.
- Support compliance monitoring and procedural development.
- Build relationships with Flight Safety programs and other operational teams.
- Coordinate research and data analysis to address safety issues.
- Develop safety promotion materials, communications, and training for the pilot group.
- Analyze data from internal and external databases to report on incidents.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Current enrollment as a full-time student with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Progress toward a degree in Safety Management Systems, Professional Pilot, Commercial Aviation, Human Factors, Engineering, Aviation Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a similar field.
- At least 18 years of age and a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database tools.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Preference for candidates with at least 3 semesters remaining, prior flight training, or an FAA pilot certificate.
- Familiarity with Human Factors, Crew Resource Management, and Safety Management Systems is preferred.
Location & details#
- Internship term: May 18, 2027, through August 8, 2027.
- Location: On-site at the Dallas, TX headquarters.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week during business hours.
- Compensation: $21-$24 per hour, based on degree progress.
- Travel: Free, unlimited space-available travel privileges.
