About the role#
Southwest Airlines offers summer internships within our Financial Planning & Analysis and Internal Audit departments. You will support teams that provide data-driven insights, build planning models, and perform risk assessments. This role provides exposure to business processes, internal controls, and enterprise risk management while working alongside audit and finance professionals.
What you'll do#
- Lead or assist with projects to improve department procedures.
- Analyze financial, operational, and business process data to identify trends, risks, and control gaps.
- Develop and maintain data applications using tools like Tableau, Alteryx, QuickBase, SQL, Python, and Excel.
- Conduct research and benchmarking to support audit engagements.
- Investigate data discrepancies and communicate resolutions to process owners.
- Assist with the development and delivery of training programs.
- Prepare and deliver presentations for meetings and workshops.
- Provide technical data and statistics to internal and external partners.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Progress toward a degree in Accounting, Aviation, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Information Science, Risk Management, or a similar field.
- Preferred: Progress toward a 4-year undergraduate degree and at least one semester of school remaining after the internship concludes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with analytical tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Python, SQL, or Power BI.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 12-week internship running from May 18, 2027, to August 8, 2027.
- The role is based on-site at our Dallas, TX headquarters.
- You will work 40 hours per week, with a maximum of 8 hours per day.
- Compensation is $21 to $26 per hour, depending on your progress toward your degree.
- Interns receive free, unlimited space-available travel privileges.
