About the role#
Southern New Hampshire University is hiring a student employee to serve as an Animal Care Specialist at the New Hampshire Audubon Massabesic Center. You will work under the supervision of the Animal Programs Curator to support the animal ambassador collection and assist with environmental education efforts.
What you'll do#
- Perform daily animal husbandry tasks, including enclosure cleaning, diet preparation, and feeding.
- Monitor animal health and behavior while keeping accurate records.
- Provide enrichment devices and participate in husbandry-related animal training.
- Handle animals safely and appropriately.
- Interact with visitors and school groups to answer questions and share information about the natural world.
- Support environmental education programs to help protect New Hampshire wildlife.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a SNHU degree program.
- Active work study as part of your financial aid package.
- Reliable transportation to the site.
- Comfort speaking with the general public and children.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Experience in animal husbandry is preferred, specifically with reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, or aquatic tanks.
- Knowledge of New Hampshire wildlife and environmental concepts is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position located in New Hampshire.
- The role is part-time, with shifts scheduled between Sunday and Saturday for up to 20 hours per week.
- Pay ranges from $13.00 to $15.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
