About the role#
This internship is a 10-week development program within the Sompo Surety team. It provides professional growth and exposure to the reinsurance industry. You will work alongside experienced underwriters to learn about our business units and underwriting philosophy. The program includes structured leadership sessions, networking opportunities with executive leadership, and a project that you will present to your manager and mentor.
What you'll do#
- Gain a solid understanding of the company underwriting philosophy.
- Assist with the underwriting process for new and renewal business.
- Help with account processing and conduct research on current and proposed accounts.
- Analyze market trends and prepare underwriters for meetings and audits.
- Participate in department projects, such as market analysis, line of business research, and product development.
- Join underwriters for internal meetings and occasional external marketing calls.
- Support the team with special projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program studying Risk Management, Finance, or a related major.
- Interest in learning reinsurance contracts and language skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment with changing priorities.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Authorization to work in the United States without restriction.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site role based in Morristown, New Jersey.
- You must be local to the NYC area or able to provide your own housing and transportation.
- This position is paid at a rate of $20 to $22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
