About the role#
The Culinary Extern works directly with the chefs and the broader culinary team at The Resort at Pelican Hill. You will assist with daily meal preparation and manage kitchen duties to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly. This role requires a professional approach to reflect company standards.
What you'll do#
- Check food supplies including meats, sauces, spices, and produce to ensure adequate stock for your shift.
- Set up your cooking station with the necessary equipment and materials.
- Assist with the preparation and plating of food items.
- Follow health department guidelines, including proper food handling and glove use.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Breakdown stations, label items, and store food according to procedure.
- Power down equipment and report any safety hazards, maintenance needs, or accidents to management.
- Follow emergency and safety protocols as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a certified culinary school pursuing a degree or certification.
- Valid health department certifications for kitchen work.
- Knowledge of preparation methods for meat, fish, seafood, and poultry.
- Experience using standard kitchen equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work professionally with staff.
