About the role#
We are looking for a Commissioning Intern to join our team in Tampa. You will support the commissioning process for complex building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation. This role offers hands-on experience working alongside Commissioning Authorities to verify that systems are designed, installed, and tested to meet project requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project planning, field observations, and functional performance testing.
- Review construction documents, equipment submittals, and operation manuals.
- Visit construction sites to observe system installations and check compliance with requirements.
- Document deficiencies, observations, and testing results.
- Prepare commissioning reports, checklists, and project documentation.
- Observe startup activities and functional testing for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems.
- Attend project meetings to collaborate with engineers, contractors, owners, and facility staff.
- Collect and analyze data related to system performance and energy efficiency.
- Navigate construction sites and lift plans weighing up to 30 pounds.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Completion of at least your sophomore year by the start date.
- Strong interest in building systems, construction, and facility performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel locally for field work at active construction sites.
- Familiarity with HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems through coursework or previous experience.
- Basic understanding of construction documents and engineering drawings.
- Interest in sustainable design and energy efficiency.

- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship.
