About the role#
Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is hiring a Civil Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This on-site position in Memphis, Tennessee, provides the opportunity to work with licensed engineers and technical professionals on civil site design, permitting, and construction documentation.
What you'll do#
- Support the preparation of site layout plans, grading and drainage designs, and utility infrastructure.
- Assist in performing site investigations and collecting field data.
- Aid in developing construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications.
- Conduct basic calculations, quantity take-offs, and material estimates.
- Participate in project team meetings and collaborate across disciplines.
- Organize and maintain project files, drawings, and technical data.
- Apply industry standards and company policies while documenting work with accuracy.
- Capture notes and action items during meetings to keep tasks moving.
- Participate in trainings, lunch-and-learns, and site walks.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and peers, ask questions, and escalate blockers early.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Completed at least sophomore year by the internship start date.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Understanding of theories and methodologies relevant to the discipline.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail, judgment, and follow-through.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
