About the role#
SSR is seeking a Commissioning Intern to join our team in Nashville. This role offers hands-on experience with the commissioning process for complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems. You will work alongside experienced professionals to verify that building systems are designed, installed, and tested to meet owner requirements. This position is suited for students interested in facility performance, energy efficiency, and the construction process.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project planning, field observations, and functional performance testing.
- Review construction documents, equipment submittals, and operation manuals.
- Visit project sites to observe system installations and verify compliance with requirements.
- Document deficiencies, observations, and testing results.
- Prepare commissioning reports, checklists, and project documentation.
- Observe startup activities and functional testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems.
- Attend project meetings and collaborate with engineers, contractors, and facility staff.
- Support data collection and analysis regarding system performance and energy efficiency.
- Navigate construction sites and lift plans weighing up to 30 pounds.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Completion of at least your sophomore year by the start date.
- Strong interest in building systems, construction, and facility performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Willingness to travel locally and perform field work at active construction sites.
- Familiarity with HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems through coursework or prior experience.
- Basic understanding of construction documents and engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
