About the role#
Skinner Animal Clinic offers externship and preceptorship opportunities for students currently enrolled in an accredited DVM program. This program provides practical, hands-on experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your future career. You will work alongside our veterinary team, receive mentorship, and participate in patient care activities. We offer flexible scheduling, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. Please note that your schedule will include days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in the following areas of practice:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in the management of medical cases.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills and refine technical abilities.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A professional demeanor and commitment to the ethical standards of our practice.
