About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking students for a Summer 2027 internship in Washington, D.C. You will work alongside engineers to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. This is a full-time, paid position that offers hands-on experience in a consulting engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
- Perform structural design, analysis, and project drafting.
- Analyze materials and support the petrography staff.
- Develop test protocols, build testing apparatus, and perform data analysis.
- Collaborate with engineers on existing structure reconnaissance and construction observation.
- Prepare client deliverables including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
- Note that work may require travel and working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science, architecture, or architectural engineering program.
- A record of high academic achievement.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Interest in gaining practical experience within a consulting engineering firm.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, District of Columbia.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $29.25 to $36.75 per hour, depending on degree level, plus a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
