As a Network Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in enterprise network and infrastructure operations within a healthcare technology environment. You will work closely with an assigned mentor and the network team to support daily operations, assist with infrastructure projects, and maintain documentation. This role requires a commitment of 20–40 hours per week for a minimum of three to four months.
What you'll do#
- Monitor network alerts and assist with review, cleanup, and escalation using tools like SolarWinds.
- Manage ticket triage, queue management, and issue follow-up using Jira.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting, both remotely and onsite, under supervision.
- Support inventory tracking and maintain data quality for network equipment and infrastructure records.
- Assist with routine maintenance, including firmware updates and post-maintenance validation.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects such as switching upgrades and disaster recovery documentation.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Participate in team meetings, technical shadowing, and training to build operational experience.
What you'll need#
- Current student or recent graduate (within 12 months) in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
- Foundational understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, switching, routing, and wireless networking.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow procedures, work within a defined scope, and escalate issues appropriately.
- Preferred: Network+ or CCNA coursework, certification, or equivalent practical exposure.
- Must meet specific Maryland internship workforce development eligibility requirements.
Location & details#
- Location: Towson, Maryland.
- Modality: On-site, with occasional travel to geographically dispersed sites throughout Maryland.
- Schedule: 20–40 hours per week.
- Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods, work at a computer, and occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 lbs. Occasional after-hours support may be required for maintenance.
