Internship (Hospital Inpatient- Baltimore Washington) 2026-2027 Social Work BSW Fieldwork

About the role#

This internship provides an opportunity to work with a range of patient populations while developing the professional and interpersonal skills required for a career in social work. Students will work under the supervision of a licensed social worker and learn through observation, demonstration, and ongoing feedback. Please note that applicants must be enrolled in a college or university with an existing affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt to be eligible for this placement.

What you'll do#

• Report to the assigned unit 2 days per week.
• Serve a variety of patient populations across child and adolescent or adult service lines and day programs.
• Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
• Communicate with patients' families or guardians and internal and external treatment team members.
• Assist with discharge planning.
• Conduct clinical groups 1-2 times per week.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a relevant degree program, such as Psychology, Nursing, or Public Health.
• Effective time management skills.
• Efficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Self-motivated work ethic.
• Patience and compassion when working with individuals with mental illnesses.

• Term: September 2026 through April 2027 (Fall 2026 and Winter 2027).
