Internship (Outpatient Mental Health Clinics - Frederick OCS) 2026-2027 School Based Counseling/Social Work Fieldwork

About the role#

Sheppard Pratt offers a school-based counseling and social work fieldwork internship for the 2026-2027 academic year. Interns work with students in grades 1-12 who have a mental health diagnosis, providing direct support through individual, group, and family therapy. Interns receive weekly clinical supervision from an LCSW-C or LCPC, along with training opportunities and participation in clinical review meetings and role-play sessions.

What you'll do#

• Provide individual, group, and family therapy to an assigned caseload of 4-6 students.
• Co-lead group therapy sessions alongside a licensed social worker or professional counselor.
• Collaborate with school staff to support student needs.
• Create individualized treatment plans for clients.
• Complete clinical documentation.
• Engage in case management and discharge planning.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment as an advanced year Master’s of Social Work or Master's of Mental Health Counseling student.
• Experience collaborating with school staff.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Skills in creating individualized treatment plans.
• Familiarity with conducting group therapy sessions.
