Internship (School Based Services-Prince Georges County) 2026-2027 Social Work/Counseling Fieldwork

About the role#

This internship provides clinical fieldwork experience within the Prince Georges County School System for the 2026-2027 academic year. Interns work on-site during school hours, typically ranging from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional evening hours for family sessions. The program runs from September through April, with potential for extended summer placements. Supervision is provided via a 1:1 model with a licensed professional once a week, supplemented by daily on-site task supervision and bi-monthly training opportunities.

What you'll do#

• Provide individual, group, and family therapy.
• Manage an individual caseload of at least 4-6 students.
• Participate in crisis intervention and collaborate with school staff.
• Attend IEP meetings and assist with behavioral modification strategies.
• Partner with school counselors to conduct needs assessments to determine program service delivery.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited Master of Social Work or Master of Counseling program at the master's or doctoral level.
• Enrollment at an academic institution that holds an existing contract with Sheppard Pratt.
• A strong foundation in child and adolescent mental health theory, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based practice.
• Experience or coursework in group theory, application, and teaching/learning concepts related to staff, client, and caregiver education.
• Ability to engage in self-directed learning, flexible thinking, and adaptability when working with a challenging patient population.
