About the role#
As a Capital Projects Intern, you will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of projects across our operating facilities. Working alongside experienced Project Managers, you will gain hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle. This 12 to 16-month internship provides progressive experience, allowing you to take on increasing levels of responsibility as you develop your technical knowledge. You will have the opportunity to coordinate smaller-scale, lower-risk capital projects under the guidance of a mentor.
What you'll do#
- Support project scope definition and the development of project documentation.
- Assist with cost forecasting, budget tracking, and the refinement of preliminary capital cost estimates.
- Maintain project risk registers, action item logs, schedules, and milestones.
- Coordinate project documentation and ensure effective document control.
- Work with internal stakeholders and external engineering consultants to manage engineered drawings and technical deliverables.
- Assist with procurement activities, bid evaluations, and contractor coordination.
- Prepare project status updates, reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Participate in project and engineering meetings to document key decisions and action items.
- Support project closeout activities, including turnover documentation and lessons learned.
- Maintain accurate project information within our internal reporting systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or related Engineering degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Completion of at least your second or third year of study.
- Previous co-op, internship, academic project, or relevant experience in engineering, construction, or project management.
- Foundational understanding of project management concepts like scheduling, risk management, and cost control.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Exposure to software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Power BI, Bluebeam Revu, or AutoCAD.
- A safety-focused mindset and a willingness to learn about our operational environments.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- Ability to complete a medical and/or alcohol and drug test if required for safety-sensitive tasks.
