About the role#
The Velocity Data Scientist internship is a customized program designed to provide development and tools for your career growth. This is a full-time, paid position for the Winter 2027 term, running from January to April. You will work 37.5 hours per week as part of a collaborative team. You will have the opportunity to build your network and gain exposure to different areas of the bank.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with business lines and stakeholders to identify opportunities for data science solutions.
- Use distributed computing tools for analysis, data mining, and modeling.
- Partner with data engineering and software development teams to build analytical datasets and models.
- Create and apply testing strategies to measure model effectiveness.
- Prepare detailed documentation for data sources, models, and algorithms.
- Present results to stakeholders to help implement data-driven changes.
- Work on research-based initiatives using advanced machine learning methods.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary program, specifically in Data Science, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- Strong attitude, ownership, and opportunity mindset.
- Experience cleaning, transforming, and visualizing large datasets.
- Knowledge of the Big Data and Cloud ecosystem, such as GCP.
- Proficiency in experimental design, statistical analysis, and machine learning.
- Python programming skills, including libraries like scikit-learn and PySpark.
- Experience with SQL for querying relational databases like SQL Server, DB2, or MySQL.
- Familiarity with UNIX tools, shell scripting, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Git workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Experience using visualization tools like PowerBI.
- Completion of a PLUM profile, a one-way video interview, and a Codility coding test.
