About the role#
As a Co-Op Engineer on the Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) team, you will gain hands-on experience in the design, development, testing, and validation of low-voltage electrical products. You will work alongside experienced engineers to apply electrical and mechanical fundamentals to product investigations, laboratory testing, and technical documentation. This role is for students who have a strong technical curiosity and want to understand how electrical and mechanical principles interact within protective devices.
What you'll do#
- Support the design validation, optimization, and maintenance of MCB products and electromechanical components.
- Assist with engineering evaluations of mechanical components, current-carrying parts, operating mechanisms, and product interfaces.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, CAD models, technical specifications, Bills of Material (BOM), and design documentation.
- Evaluate current-carrying components, electrical connections, interruption mechanisms, thermal behavior, insulation, and product safety requirements.
- Interpret electrical test results and relate observed behavior to product design.
- Analyze test results using Excel, statistical techniques, graphical analysis, and comparative testing.
- Conduct structured investigations of product and manufacturing issues using methods like 5 Whys, Ishikawa/Fishbone, 5M+1D, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis.
- Assist with failure characterization, measurement, sample preparation, data collection, and hypothesis testing.
- Compare conforming and non-conforming products to identify meaningful differences.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing problem statements, observations, analyses, and conclusions.
- Collaborate with Continuous Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and Laboratory teams.
- Participate in engineering meetings, laboratory reviews, and problem-solving sessions.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, or a related field.
- Strong academic understanding of engineering fundamentals.
- Coursework or practical experience in electrical circuits, power systems, circuit analysis, and electrical measurements.
- Coursework or practical experience in mechanics, mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, and heat transfer.
- Coursework or practical experience in engineering drawing, CAD, statistics, data analysis, and laboratory methods.
- Exposure to 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawings.
- Basic understanding of GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.
- Familiarity with electrical measurement equipment or laboratory instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and technical data analysis.
- Exposure to statistical analysis and structured root-cause problem solving.
- Awareness of DFM/DFA principles.
- Interest in engineering testing, product validation, and low-voltage electrical distribution products.
Location & details#
