About the role#
This internship provides practical experience in electrical design within the AEC industry. You will work directly with our team in Portland to support project delivery, learn technical workflows, and contribute to building systems. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Perform calculations for circuit sizing, lighting levels, building loads, and equipment sizing.
- Design lighting systems, controls, receptacle placement, and branch circuit panel boards.
- Place fire alarm, nurse call, and specialty devices.
- Input and maintain electrical designs in Revit, including system connectivity, schedules, and drawing notes.
- Coordinate with manufacturers and other trade designers, including mechanical and fire protection teams.
- Process markups from senior staff and enter data into models.
- Communicate with architects regarding the placement of fixtures and equipment.
- Visit project sites to gather information on existing conditions.
- Observe construction progress and assist in resolving contractor questions.
- Review contractor submittals and requests for information against design specifications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program for Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Interest in the AEC industry and a willingness to learn.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work tasks on-site or at project locations.
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Revit is an advantage.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis tools like SKM, Easy Power, Elum Tools, or AGI32 is helpful.
- Prior internship or co-op experience is a plus, but not required.
