About the role#
As a Propulsion Analyst Intern, you will support the Propulsion team in developing and testing the Archimedes rocket engine. You will work on-site in Long Beach, California, during the Winter 2027 term. This role involves creating FEA or CFD models for new and updated designs and gaining hands-on experience analyzing critical rocket engine hardware.
What you'll do#
- Create FEA or CFD models to support propulsion designs.
- Analyze critical rocket engine hardware.
- Apply engineering concepts to solve real technical challenges.
- Work closely with your mentor and other department employees.
- Attend regular 1:1 meetings with supervisors to track progress and learning.
- Participate in tech talks and professional events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s, master's, or doctorate program in engineering, physics, or mathematics.
- At least one semester of school remaining after the internship.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- At least 3 months of applied engineering experience.
- Ability to work in small, high-performing teams and thrive in ambiguity.
- Capacity to lead development projects without supervision and collaborate across teams.
- Preferred: GPA of 3.5 or higher and 6+ months of applied engineering experience.
- Preferred technical skills: Python, ANSYS, Siemens NX, MATLAB, Solidworks, CAD/CAM, FEA, CFD, heat transfer, cryogenics, and superficial fluid behavior.
