About the role#
As a Combustion Devices Intern, you will join the team in Long Beach, California, to support the development of new rocket engines. You will work alongside mentors and department staff to apply engineering concepts to real-world challenges. This role involves both technical work and professional development through regular check-ins, tech talks, and networking events.
What you'll do#
- Design, analyze, and test combustion devices, structures, and components.
- Gain experience with GD&T drafting and data processing.
- Assist with setting up launch pads and test sites.
- Apply engineering principles to solve technical problems.
- Participate in 1:1 meetings with mentors and supervisors to track progress.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
- At least one semester of school remaining after the internship.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- At least 3 months of applied engineering experience, including internships, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
- Preferred: Experience with CAD/CAM, GD&T, FEA, 3D printing, or software such as ANSYS, MATLAB, and Siemens NX.
- Preferred: A GPA of 3.5 or above and 6+ months of applied engineering experience.
- Preferred: Prior experience in propulsion.
Location & details#
- Location: Long Beach, California.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks starting in May or June 2027.
- Compensation: $28.00 per hour.
