About the role#
This is a per diem opportunity for nursing students to gain direct patient care experience. You will support clients by following established care plans, contributing to their daily and long-term needs, and communicating changes in condition to the appropriate staff. You must be available to work at least one 8-hour shift every two weeks, including one weekend shift per month.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily routines, including personal care, light housekeeping, and meal preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities and the general condition of patients.
- Complete and submit aide activity sheets in a timely manner according to department policy.
- Keep staff and family members informed regarding client activities and concerns.
- Attend a minimum of 12 hours of annual in-service education and competency training.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a nursing student with documented evidence of successful completion of coursework requiring mastery of home health aide tasks within the past 24 months.
- Ability to complete a written exam and a one-day HHA skills competency program provided by Rochester Regional Health.
- Requirement to earn active New York State HHA certification within 4 days of hire.
- A valid New York State driver's license is preferred.
- Ability to perform medium work, which includes exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
