    About the role#

    This per diem position offers nursing students the opportunity to gain hands-on patient care experience while supporting the ElderONE program. You will work as a Home Health Aide, assisting seniors with chronic care needs to maintain their independence in their own homes. The schedule includes day and evening shifts, requiring a minimum commitment of one 8-hour shift every two weeks and one weekend shift per month.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with patient daily routines, including personal care, light housekeeping, and meal preparation.
    • Help implement comprehensive care plans to meet both daily and long-term patient needs.
    • Maintain accurate records of patient activities and general condition.
    • Communicate any changes in a patient's condition to the appropriate staff and keep families informed.
    • Complete required aide activity sheets in a timely manner according to department policies.
    • Attend a minimum of 12 hours of annual in-service education and competency training.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a nursing student with documented evidence of successful completion of coursework covering home health aide tasks within the last 24 months.
    • Ability to complete a written and one-day HHA skills competency program provided by Rochester Regional Health.
    • Must earn active New York State HHA certification within 4 days of hire.
    • A valid New York State driver’s license is preferred.
    • Ability to perform medium work, including exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
