About the role#
This co-op position places you between analysis and engineering. You will build and standardize data models and semantic layer components to help our analytics team deliver governed data products. You will act as a liaison between the Student Success Center analytics team and Business Technology, translating business needs into technical solutions. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week role.
What you'll do#
- Design and build data models in Databricks to create a single source of truth for reporting.
- Standardize semantic layer components and metric definitions to ensure consistency across dashboards and reports.
- Improve data quality by implementing validation, freshness, and reconciliation checks at the transformation layer.
- Partner with Business Technology to manage upstream data sources, pipelines, and governance.
- Convert manual reports into automated data products in Power BI.
- Document lineage, definitions, and reasoning for your builds to ensure they are usable by others.
- Recommend improvements to data modeling processes and workflows.
- Coordinate with Student Success Center stakeholders to enable better analytics workflows.
What you'll need#
- Working SQL ability, including joins, aggregations, and debugging experience.
- Functional Python experience with the ability to navigate existing scripts and workflows.
- Foundational knowledge of database management, including keys, grains, normalization, and table design.
- Strong analytical judgment and experience in a real-world business setting.
- Ability to work with ambiguity to drive measurable outcomes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Prior experience in a data engineering or analytics environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
- Confidence with technical documentation and project management.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or Business Administration.
