About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship at Reynolds Lake Oconee. You will gain practical experience in turfgrass management and golf course maintenance while working alongside experienced professionals. This role focuses on the fundamentals of soil science, turf health, pest management, and equipment operation.
What you'll do#
- Perform daily maintenance tasks including mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
- Manage irrigation systems through monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and other plant protectants.
- Execute agronomic practices such as aeration, topdressing, and overseeding.
- Operate and maintain equipment like mowers, aerators, and utility vehicles.
- Maintain bunkers, flower beds, trees, and shrubs.
- Monitor turf health and report signs of pests or disease.
- Assist with course setup for tournaments and special events.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to learn about soil, water, and turfgrass science.
- Keep accurate records of daily tasks and maintain an organized shop area.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- A strong interest in pursuing a career in golf course or sports turf management.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
- Capacity to lift, carry, and move equipment or materials up to 50 lbs.
- A valid driver license.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow directions and work well within a team.
