About the role#
This internship within the Internal Medicine Clinical Development Unit offers medical students the opportunity to gain experience in drug discovery and development. You will work on a project team focused on areas such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, or immunological and inflammatory diseases. You will engage with leadership, participate in professional development sessions, and collaborate with a global program head, medical director, and clinical pharmacology director.
What you'll do#
- Complete a hands-on project with direct business impact.
- Perform visual and descriptive analysis of clinical trial data from recent studies or databases.
- Receive training on basic statistical modeling techniques using SAS JMP, including data cleaning and linear regression.
- Review pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data from clinical trials.
- Learn Good Clinical Practice standards for human clinical trials, including FDA and International Conference on Harmonization guidelines.
- Attend team meetings, including Strategic Project, Global Clinical Sub, and Global Regulatory Sub teams.
- Present a summary of your research experiences to an internal audience at the end of the program.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited US medical school (MD program).
- Completion of at least the first-year basic science curriculum.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred: Understanding of biostatistics, experimental design, and the scientific method.
- Preferred: Experience with R Studio, Python, SPSS, SAS, or SAS JMP.
- Ability to commit to 40 hours per week for 6-8 weeks between late May or early June and August.

- Compensation: Paid position ($32.00-$40.70 per hour).
