About the role#
This is a paid, full-time co-op opportunity based in Latham, New York. You will work on-site to support the development and maintenance of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets. This role runs from January through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to these systems.
- Work with engineers and scientists to develop and implement design solutions.
- Conduct experiments and tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of prototypes.
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, including setting up and executing test protocols.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and standards in a lab environment.
- Experience with 3D modeling and other engineering tools.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and experience designing mechanical assemblies.
- Understanding of thermal systems, heat transfer, cryogenics, or vacuum systems.
- Ability to work with basic circuits, including developing circuits or programming controllers.
- Experience working with teams to solve complex engineering problems.
- Strong attention to detail regarding documentation and experience writing technical documents.
