Traffic Control Design Engineer Intern

About the role#

The Traffic Control Design Engineer Intern supports traffic design and engineering projects within Gas and Electric Operations. This role focuses on planning and implementing measures to manage traffic flow, ensuring safety and efficiency in work zones that intersect with streets, highways, and pedestrian facilities. Interns work under the guidance of senior staff to solve technical problems and contribute to the company's safety and reliability goals.

What you'll do#

• Perform basic engineering design work and projects.
• Create and revise site-specific temporary Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) in accordance with CA MUTCD, Caltrans, and local agency standards.
• Partner with experienced Traffic Engineers to develop technical knowledge.
• Ensure the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of engineering services and projects.
• Operate under the guidance and oversight of senior engineering staff.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
• Proficiency in computer-aided design and drafting software, such as AutoCAD or RapidPlan.
• A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater is desired.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work location.

Location & details#

• Term: Summer 2026.
• Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Modality: Hybrid.
• Locations: Oakland, Fresno, Sacramento, or San Ramon, California.
• Compensation: $24.52 – $35.37 per hour.
