Substation Civil Engineering Intern

About the role#

As a Substation Civil Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to support infrastructure projects, including the interconnection of generation, capacity demand increases, and system reliability improvements. You will contribute to the Substation Engineering Services Department by assisting with the preparation of detailed construction drawings and technical support for substation projects.

What you'll do#

• Promote safe practices in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
• Support team members in designing steel structures, structure retrofits, reinforced concrete foundations, equipment anchorage, access roads, storm water mitigation, and grading layouts.
• Assist in confirming environmental compliance by updating Spill Prevention Containment and Countermeasure plans and spill containment system designs.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
• Gain familiarity with engineering software including AutoCAD, SAP2000, Hilti Profis, and L-Pile.
• Collaborate with various departments, such as Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, and Distribution Planning.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education and returning to school following the internship.
• Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• EIT or FE certification is preferred.

Location & details#

• Location: West Sacramento, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Work Modality: Hybrid (requires working in the office at least two days a week; travel within the service territory may be expected 10% of the time).
• Compensation: $24.52 to $35.37 per hour.
